Clanton DC Earns ‘Excellent’ Score on Inspection
The Merchants Foodservice distribution center in Clanton, Alabama, received an “excellent” score on a recent inspection by ASI Food Safety, an expert food safety auditing company based out of St. Louis, Missouri.
The distribution center was also recognized as a “superior” facility by the auditing company. The “superior” distinction is earned by having an “excellent” score for two consecutive years.
The inspection includes a thorough examination of food safety procedures, pest control, operational methods and personnel practice, maintenance and repair schedules, cleaning programs, allergen management and hazard analysis. A mock recall and traceability exercise is also conducted during the inspection.
To earn an “excellent” score, a distribution center must earn between 95–100 percent on a 100 percent scale.
The Clanton center was constructed in 1999 with a fourth expansion completed in 2016. The 200,000-square-foot facility includes 8 million cubic feet of storage space for dry, refrigerated and frozen goods. The center serves approximately 2,000 customers in Alabama, Florida, Georgia and Tennessee.
