All DCs Earn BRC Certificates
All Merchants Foodservice distribution centers have now earned the Global Standard for Storage and Distribution issued by the British Retail Consortium, the largest trade organization in the British retail industry and the global leader in industry review standards.
The distribution center in Newberry, South Carolina, earned the certification on Jan. 12. The Clanton, Alabama, distribution center was approved for the standard in November 2016. The distribution centers in Jackson, Mississippi, and Tifton, Georgia, were certified earlier in 2016.
The certifications signal the company’s dedication to best practices in the storing, wholesaling and distributing of food and other products. Activities affecting the safety, quality and legality of products at the distribution centers are audited during the standard’s year-long review process.
“The BRC certification shows that we have internationally-recognized best practices in place as well as a process of continual improvement,” said Andy Mercier, president and CEO of Merchants Foodservice. “Customers can have confidence in our processes and in the integrity of all products received from us.”
The standard, introduced in 2006, has since been adopted by 23,000 suppliers in 123 countries.
Merchants Foodservice serves 12 Southeastern states and is ranked 12th in sales volume among the 2,600 food distributors in the United States. The corporate office is located in Purvis, Mississippi.
